Acute respiratory infections are recognized as one of the leading causes of mortality from infectious diseases worldwide. Bacterial and fungal infections are among the common diagnoses in patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU).
The mortality rate in ICU patients with these types of infections is significantly higher compared to patients without infections. The severity of these infections depends on the causative pathogen, as well as environmental factors and the physical condition of the host, and can range from asymptomatic infections to severe and fatal diseases.
Although respiratory tract infections are caused by a wide range of different pathogens, they often produce similar clinical symptoms in affected individuals. Despite the similarity in symptoms, the treatment approach for patients differs significantly depending on the type of pathogen; therefore, accurate and timely diagnosis of the infection-causing pathogen plays a fundamental role in selecting the appropriate treatment and preventing the spread of the disease.
The Real-time PCR technique, due to its speed, accuracy, and high sensitivity in identifying a wide range of respiratory pathogens, facilitates correct diagnosis and timely treatment.
The 11 Bacterial & Fungal Respiratory Pathogens Detection Real Time PCR Kit from ap-rad is designed and manufactured for the rapid and sensitive detection and differential diagnosis of 10 bacteria (Streptococcus pneumoniae (Sp), Staphylococcus aureus (Sa), Haemophilus influenzae (Hi), Mycoplasma pneumoniae (Mp), Chlamydia pneumoniae (Cp), Legionella pneumophila (Lp), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa), Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kp), Bordetella pertussis (Bp), and Bordetella parapertussis (Bpp)) and 1 fungus, Pneumocystis jirovecii (Pj).
