5Plex Viral Respiratory rRT-PCR Kit
Influenza A, Influenza B, SARS-CoV-2, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and human Metapneumovirus (hMPV) are RNA respiratory viruses that cause upper and lower respiratory tract infections in humans. These infections are more prevalent and severe, particularly in children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. These viruses are mainly common during the cold seasons (autumn and winter) and often begin with symptoms similar to the common cold; however, in some cases, they can progress to more severe phases, leading to bronchitis, bronchiolitis, and pneumonia.
Overview of Influenza A, Influenza B, SARS-CoV-2, RSV, and hMPV
Influenza A and Influenza B:
Influenza A and B viruses, belonging to the Orthomyxoviridae family, are among the leading causes of mortality resulting from respiratory infections worldwide. These diseases are typically associated with symptoms such as fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches, headache, and loss of appetite.
SARS-CoV-2:
SARS-CoV-2, from the Coronaviridae family, is the causative agent of COVID-19 and presents a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations. While it often appears with mild, flu-like symptoms in many individuals, in other cases, it can lead to moderate to severe disease, pulmonary involvement, dyspnea (shortness of breath), hypoxia, and even critical conditions such as respiratory failure, shock, and multi-organ failure.
RSV:
RSV, from the Paramyxoviridae family, is one of the most common causes of respiratory infections, particularly in infants and the elderly. It can cause bronchitis, pneumonia, and exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Common symptoms of RSV include mild fever, cough, sore throat, headache, and wheezing.
hMPV:
hMPV, also from the Paramyxoviridae family, spreads primarily through person-to-person transmission and is accompanied by symptoms such as cough, fever, nasal congestion, and dyspnea. If the disease progresses, bronchitis and pneumonia may be observed in patients.
Given the clinical overlap of these viral infections and the importance of rapid and differential diagnosis for therapeutic decision-making and outbreak control, Amirpeyvand Research and Development Company (AP-RAD) has designed and manufactured the 5-Plex Viral Respiratory rRT-PCR Kit. This kit enables the simultaneous, rapid, and sensitive detection of Influenza A, Influenza B, SARS-CoV-2, RSV, and hMPV, playing an effective role in the accurate laboratory diagnosis of respiratory infections.
