Borrelia Molecular Detection Kit | Borrelia species / B. burgdorferi Real-Time PCR Kit
Borrelia is a genus of Gram-negative spirochete bacteria that causes Borreliosis in humans and animals. Among the various species of this genus, Borrelia burgdorferi is the most well-known pathogenic species in humans and is the primary cause of Lyme Disease.
Transmission of Borrelia bacteria occurs mainly through the bite of hard-bodied ticks (Ixodidae family), particularly black-legged ticks or deer ticks. This infection is more prevalent in wooded and grassy areas.
Lyme disease consists of three clinical stages:

Early stage (Flu-like stage): Mild fever, headache, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema chronicum migrans that appears as a bull’s-eye circular lesion.

Second stage (Neurological symptoms): Involvement of the central and peripheral nervous systems.

Third stage (Joint manifestations): Onset of joint pain and inflammation, particularly in the knees.
Treatment of Lyme disease is typically performed with appropriate antibiotics. However, a small percentage of patients may experience symptoms such as chronic fatigue, muscle or joint pain months or years after treatment, known as Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome, which does not indicate active infection.
