Description

Dengue/Chikungunya/Zika Virus Multiplex rRT-PCR Kit

Serological diagnosis of arboviruses is not sufficiently accurate due to antibody cross-reactivity. Therefore, molecular methods, particularly Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), are recommended as the gold standard for the diagnosis and differentiation of these viruses. In this regard, the Dengue/Chikungunya/Zika Virus Multiplex rRT-PCR Kit, developed by Amir Peyvand Research and Development (AP-RAD), utilizes a one-step Real-Time PCR technique. This kit enables the simultaneous and differential detection of the Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika viruses with high accuracy, sensitivity, and speed, playing a significant role in improving public health and accelerating the identification and treatment of viral fevers.

Arboviruses, or arthropod-borne viruses, have become a major global health challenge due to the geographical spread of vectors and increased international travel. Dengue Virus (DV) and Zika Virus (ZV) belong to the Flaviviridae family, while Chikungunya Virus (CHIKV) is from the Alphavirus genus within the Togaviridae family. These viruses possess single-stranded RNA and are primarily transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Infection with these viruses often presents with similar symptoms, including fever, severe joint pain, musculoskeletal pain, headache, general weakness, and skin rash, making clinical differentiation difficult.

Although the mortality rate from these diseases is relatively low, untreated or delayed diagnosis can lead to severe disease phases that pose a serious threat to life. Severe dengue (hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome) is associated with extensive bleeding, plasma leakage, organ dysfunction, and in some cases, death. Zika virus can cause serious neurological complications such as Guillain-Barré syndrome in adults and microcephaly, congenital abnormalities, preterm birth, and miscarriage in pregnant women. In contrast, Chikungunya infection often leads to severe and chronic joint pain, prolonged arthritis, and impaired mobility, significantly affecting the patient’s quality of life.

Given the similar transmission routes, overlapping clinical symptoms, and the importance of accurate diagnosis during the acute phase of Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika virus infections (approximately 5–7 days after symptom onset), rapid and accurate molecular methods are crucial. The Dengue/Chikungunya/Zika Virus Multiplex rRT-PCR Kit from Amir Peyvand Research and Development (AP-RAD) provides the capability for simultaneous detection of these three viruses, serving as an efficient tool for early diagnosis, appropriate treatment decisions, epidemiological surveillance, and effective control of arbovirus outbreaks.
