Dengue Virus (1–4) rRT-PCR Detection/Genotyping Kit
Early detection of dengue fever through the identification of the virus genome during the acute phase of the illness (from symptom onset to approximately 5–7 days after) using Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) plays a key role in effective treatment and disease control. In this regard, the Dengue Virus (1-4) Detection/Genotyping Kit produced by Amir Peyvand Research and Development (AP-RAD), utilizing a one-step Real-Time PCR technique, enables the simultaneous detection and differentiation of all four dengue virus serotypes (DENV1–4) with high accuracy, sensitivity, and speed. Dengue fever is one of the most significant mosquito-borne viral diseases, and currently, about half of the world’s population is at risk of contracting it. It is estimated that 100 to 400 million people are infected annually. The causative agent is one of four dengue virus serotypes (DENV1–4), circulating in tropical and subtropical regions, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas. Dengue viruses belong to the Flaviviridae family and have single-stranded RNA. They are primarily transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. Transmission from an infected pregnant mother to the fetus during pregnancy or at birth has also been reported. In rare cases, transmission through blood transfusion, needle-stick injuries, and organ transplantation is also possible.
Although infection with one serotype confers lifelong immunity to that same serotype, it does not provide complete protection against secondary infection with other serotypes. In some cases, the presence of previous antibodies can increase disease severity through cross-reactivity. Most individuals infected with dengue fever are asymptomatic; however, if symptoms occur, the most common ones include fever, headache, muscle pain, chills, retro-orbital pain, nausea, vomiting, and skin rash, which often resolve within 1–2 weeks.
Warning signs requiring immediate medical attention include abdominal pain, bleeding from the nose or gums, restlessness, and severe fatigue. In some instances, the disease can manifest as severe dengue fever, accompanied by shock, widespread bleeding, involvement of vital organs such as the heart, liver, and brain, and can even lead to death. However, dengue fever is treatable in most cases, with an average mortality rate of less than 1%; although if left untreated in severe cases, this rate can increase to up to 15%.
